For a summary of today's project - check out our youtube video:
Today we designed and set up an obstacle course challenge. G, J and L all picked out equipment and designed course elements. Each part of the course was trialed to make sure it functioned properly.
Everyone helped get the challenges set up. 3 Ipads were placed at the start so each of them could start and stop their own Ipad and begin w/o wait time. A bit of tech practice. Time telling proved a bit challenging especially in terms of hundredths. Each child could see their time with each attempt and analyze if moving faster w/ practice. Next time I would make a chart for them to complete: Attempt 1:____ Attempt 2:____ etc. Then they could graph their results to incorporate more math after a period of practice.

We worked on creating circles for the dice grid. In this challenge, roll the dice - read the corresponding number activity and the color of writing. For example if you roll a 5, you must gallop to all the orange circles - there are 3 in each square for a total of 12 (one to one correspondence practice for my kinders here and at boxing station where 10 punches were made).

We took time to draw our favorite challenge on the obstacle course, and noted our initial attempt time. It was a little challenging for the kinders to grasp a smart goal time. We identified lead measures - "practicing the part that is the hardest - like climbing down the wall!" G was challenged to write out the time of his results in expanded form. While J and L focused on how to read aloud time examples.
